The Company’s commitment to its social purpose is significant. Since the appointment of Deborah White as the Company’s Chief Executive in 2008, Milestone has worked to reposition itself from broadcasting into the digital media and technology sector and has put Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at its heart. Since that time the Company has built a range of products and services to help deliver upon that objective.
Through the operation of its flagship product, the Passion Project and its charitable entity, the Milestone Foundation, the Company is looking to help address three key social problems:
The Company has invested in excess of £2 million into the research and development of the Passion Project, the Milestone Foundation and marketing across a range of products that will not only make a significant difference to the lives of young people but will also have a positive impact on the businesses that utilise those products.
To date this activity has led to the provision of innovative and proven solutions for the education, training, apprenticeship, employability and criminal justice sectors along with bespoke solutions for employers across a variety of other sectors.
The Social Stock Exchange (SSX) was launched in June 2013 with the aim of helping businesses that deliver a social or environmental impact to connect with investors. All member companies must meet a rigorous set of criteria before joining, and produce an annual Impact Report.
In January 2015, in collaboration with the SSX, ICAP Securities & Derivatives Exchange Limited (ISDX) launched the SSX branded market segment for impact businesses. ISDX is a Recognised Investment Exchange operating a regulated market and a growth market and provides a secondary market trading facility. ISDX is supervised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Milestone Group PLC were admitted to the SSX in April 2016. The SSX’s global audience offers Milestone, the Foundation and its partners an exciting platform from which to promote its methodology and initiatives. This is set to include the white labelling of Nexstar for its latest initiative entitled Alchemy, as well as increased exposure for the Company’s flagship product, the Passion Project, and Disorder Magazine.
The increased exposure generated by the Social Stock Exchange admission provides the Company with greater impetus with which to achieve its social objectives.
